George Best was
undoubtedly the most naturally gifted player to ever wear the famous Manchester
United shirt. Much better self-destructed and destroyed his own career in the
saddest of ways, it is considered by many as the greatest footballer of all
time. If it has not taken the path of drinking and abusing your body in
general, one can only speculate about the legacy he would have created. George
Best was born May 22, 1946 at Cregagh area of Belfast. Bishop was so
enthralled with the best talent that has sent a telegram to Matt Busby claiming
to have found a genius. After a trial, he was signed by Manchester United and
turned professional soon after.
George Best left
Manchester United for the last time in 1974, with only 27. His last game was
against QPR on January 1st. He made 470 appearances scoring 179 goals in all
competitions. He was the top scorer of Manchester United for six consecutive
seasons.
November 25, 2005, George Best died aged 59. He
suffered organ failure at the Cromwell Hospital in London after failing to stop
drinking after transplantation 2002. He received immunosuppressive drugs to
stop the body rejecting the transplanted liver. George Best will be remembered
as a great genius of the game who wasted his natural talent to drink. Its spectacular
appearances in a shirt Manchester United is that it will be the best memory.
His loyal Irish fans perhaps best summarized when they said "Maradona
good; Pele better, George Best."
