Manchester United FC (Football Club) is one of the biggest football clubs in the world. English soccer Premier League club, home of MU is at Old Trafford, Greater Manchester. Manchester United FC was formed in 1878 as Newton Heath and in 1892 the club joined the Football League. Manchester United played in the top division of English football since 1938. Today, Manchester United is the current champion of the Premier League as they won the 2008-09 Premier League Championship Trophy. It is considered one of the most successful football clubs in the history of English football. Since 1986, the team won 22 major titles under the direction of Sir Alex Ferguson. In 1968, Manchester United became the first English club to win the European Cup after beating Benfica 4-1. They won for the second time the European Cup in 1999, followed by another victory in 2008. Manchester United FC holds the joint record for the maximum number of Premier League titles and FA Cup wins with the first being 18 and the second 11.

This football team is also considered one of the richest clubs in the world since the late 1990. Known to his fans as the "Red Devils", the current manager Manchester United FC's Sir Alex and captain Gary Neville.


Manchester United club was known as Newton Heath L & YR Football Club in 1878 and spent close to bankruptcy in 1902. The club came to be formally appointed as Manchester United 26 April 1902.
