The Food Pyramid can Solve Childhood Obesity?

It is the classic food pyramid or the answer we must look elsewhere?

The origins of the food pyramid in 1916, when the US Department of Agriculture released its first "food for young children" tab. In 1992, the original four food groups were expanded to six and graphics "food pyramid" was created.

Bread, cereals, rice and pasta are the largest group of foods on the basis of the triangle. Fruits and vegetables were each block half pyramid with vegetables given a little more focus.

The next block in the pyramid is protein. The top of the pyramid was given the fats, oils and sweets, with the recommendation to "use sparingly".

The Ministry of Agriculture has revised the look of continuing food pyramid in 2005, changing the horizontal blocks the six vertical colored stripes and the name of MyPyramid, the food groups but remain essentially the same.

In an effort to solve the problem of childhood obesity, the government website said today lower in fat, higher nutritional value of each food group. However, this information is sufficient to contain the rising tide of childhood obesity?

The Harvard School of Public Health takes such a strong position against the pyramid Department of Agriculture, created a replacement pyramid called healthy food pyramid. Among other things, the official argues that Harvard pyramid is based update science and was influenced by corporate lobbyists.

There are several key areas that differentiate the two food pyramids. While red meat is high in the list of healthy protein Department of Agriculture, of Harvard University, in the "eat sparingly".

Harvard motion dairy products is an important source of protein for a smaller source 2- 3 servings per day of vitamin D. Although the grains still have an important place in the Harvard list, refined foods such as white bread were transferred to the "eat sparingly" category.

Harvard Version distinguishes between healthy and unhealthy oils and fats. The new USDA pyramid includes a figure outside the pyramid climbing stairs to suggest exercise. Harvard version gives more exercise focus, placing it at the base of the structure, as well as weight control.

The question remains: the food pyramid can solve childhood obesity? An argument can be made that healthy food pyramid Harvard goes further towards solving the USDA MyPyramid problem. Other food and nutrition experts offer alternatives to the problem of obesity in children.
