Canine Leukemia ~ Leukemia is a type of cancer that affects the blood. This disease is characterized by a significant increase of leukocytes, commonly known as white blood cells.
Leukemia is a result of a genetic abnormality, a mutation which occurs in the bone marrow. This disease has several types. Leukemia can be derived from the bone marrow granulocytic is called lymphocytic leukemia or acute myelogenous leukemia, and also when it involves the lymph nodes.
The disease of leukemia can be chronic or acute. Everything depends on the type of white blood cells that are affected. Some of the symptoms include fever, anemia, random bleeding, appetite loss, swollen lymph nodes, panting, anxiety, vomiting, pale gums, shifting members lameness, lack of coordination, infections appear due to the immune system of the week. All these symptoms can lead to death if the disease is left untreated.
Many mature animals develop acute lymphoid leukemia rather than the young. Chronic leukemia has many white blood cells of cancer that affect the ability of the body to fight infection. The disease progresses slowly and is fatal. It suppresses the immune system and then, the bone marrow is not working. The bag cells then infiltrate other organs. The disease is easily spread to the blood, lymph nodes, spleen or liver and central nervous system. The disease does not create solid tumors or other solid masses. The discovery of leukemia can be done ding a simple blood test, and then, if there are suspected, a bone marrow assay.
