The Hunger Games trilogy is set
at an undetermined time in the future ... once after disasters and severe
droughts. In the early Hunger Games, the mayor Undersee read the
history of Panem (an annual ritual in Reapings). It reads: "It lists the
disasters, droughts, storms, fires, invasive seas that swallowed up so much
land, the brutal war for what little sustenance remained The result was Panem,
a ringed shining Capitol thirteen districts. Panem, we know that is found in
North America. There are now only 12 districts (district 13 were destroyed) who
were 30 states and provinces. We know that the district 12 is small, with a
population of 8,000. The only buildings that we heard about The Hunger Games
and Catching Fire are short, mayor of homes and government buildings. There are
no skyscrapers, urban centers or more urban sprawl. We know that the trains are
Katniss and Peeta around Panem traveling 250 mph. We also know that the
District 7 and District 10 are en route from District 12 to the Capitol. Here
are some notes compiled on the things we know about Panem, districts and some
of the people who live there.

District 7 - Lumber / Trees - nothing is really known about this district. Johanna Mason, however, is dressed as a tree for the parade before the Quell area.
District 8 - Textiles / Clothing - In Flames found the refugees in District 8, Twill and Bonnie, the names that coincide with the head of their district industry. Katniss remembers that it was a "place ugly, urban ... no chance to learn the ways of nature."
District 9 - Generates Electricity - The boy tribute died on the first day.
District 11 - Agriculture / Orchards - Rue specifically cites orchards and climbing trees. When traveling in the district 11 of the Tower of Victory, Katniss notes the extreme temperature difference - the snow where it is against to be pretty warm in winter.
