Roy Keane has experienced more than 12 years at Manchester United, he became the club's captain and helped the team to win seven league titles, four FA Cups and the European Champions League. Keane made 458 appearances and scored 51 goals for the club.
Born in Ireland in 1971, Keane signed his first contract with the team of Ireland Cobh Ramblers in 1989, and it was evident at an early age that Keane was a determined and committed player. Keane was invited to attend a trial at Nottingham Forest and signed for them in the summer of 1990 for an amount of £ 47,000.
Roy Keane made his debut for Nottingham Forest against Liverpool earlier in the season 1990-1991, and gradually more first appearances of the team throughout the season, a season which saw Forest also reach the final of the FA Cup, but lost to Tottenham Hotspur. Forest returned to Wembley the following season in the final of the League Cup, but this time lost to Manchester United. Nottingham Forest but were a team in decline and despite the efforts Keane were relegated from the Premiership in 2003.
Keane soon established himself in the first team of Manchester United, and endeared fans as he scored twice on his home debut against Sheffield United and a few weeks later, he scored the winning goal against local rivals Manchester City. Keane helped United retain the Premier League title this season, and a few weeks later to win the FA Cup against Chelsea as United earned their first double.
The following season ended without a trophy as United lost to Blackburn in the Premier League and Everton in the final of the FA Cup. The 1995-96 season saw several new players and after a poor start to the season, but United went ten consecutive series victories in the new year to reform Newcastle and win the Premier League. During the 1996-1997 season, United retained the Premier League title, but Keane missed many games due to injury and suspension, but he always had a big influence on the team when he played.
Early in the season 1997-1998 Roy Keane was appointed captain of the club, after Eric Cantona retired shock, but some games in the season Keane suffered a ligament injury that would see him miss the rest of the season. On the ground, United lost the Premier League title with Arsenal, many fans believe Keane had been available, United would have won the title again.
1998-1999 was an incredible season for Manchester United as they went to win the treble of Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League. If Keane missed the final of the Champions League suspension, which he later described as their worst experience in football.
Keane was voted Premier League Player of the Year.
Keane won another title in 2003 and remained at Manchester United until November 2005, when the surprise announcement was made he left the club by mutual consent, he joined Celtic a month later.
