General Information on Food Pyramid

Many food intake guides have been published over the years to help people understand healthy eating. For example, the food pyramid is designed as a nutritional guide to suggest optimal daily intake of food. It is divided into colored components or "shelves" and components representing the five major food groups that include carbohydrates, proteins, fats, vegetables and fruits. There are many variations of the pyramid guide, but they stress primarily the right amount of food choices.

In general, we know there is a strong association between food and culture. So what gives rise to cultural variations of the pyramid as the Asian food pyramid, the food pyramid in Latin America and the pyramid of the Mediterranean diet. The guide in the form of triangular pyramid shows where to focus in their choice of food. Of course, the basis is the group of foods you should consume more. When you move through the pyramid, the type of food consumed on each shelf should be reduced in quantity and frequency.

First, increase the consumption of fruits, vegetables and grains. Secondly, reducing the intake of saturated fat, salt and sugar. Then balance your diet with enough water and exercise taken. You need to eat a variety of foods because there is no food that can provide the daily dose of nutrients you need.

Recently, a special version of the food pyramid was released. This version is for children because many kids today are bombarded with junk food ads and facing stricter food choices.
