The 1950s brought great triumphs and great disappointments. It is quite interesting that when the team moved to Los Angeles in 1960, the name has remained the same, and they became the Los Angeles Lakers (despite the absence of lakes), and for the love of God, they have been since then. Most fans know the score as one: the Lakers lost the Boston Celtics - not for the first time!
The Lakers reached the final eight times during the 1960s, and each time they fought a real battle, but lost eight times. Not that anyone would notice. During the rest of the 70? Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, and later Earvin "Magic" Johnson was added to the mix of players and TV commentator Pat Riley was hired as an assistant coach. The Lakers met the team who became his rival again in 1984. The Boston Celtics beat them in the final, but Kareem Abdul-Jabbar has established an NBA record anyway. When the Lakers and Celtics met the 1985 finals to Boston Gardens, then 37 years old Kareem provided a powerful auxiliary, and the Lakers finally beat his rival in their own territory the Celtics. The victory celebration for players and fans was something to see!
In 2000, the Los Angeles Lakers moved its base of the Forum in Inglewood at the Staples Center in L.A., which seems to suit them. They also hired coach Phil Jackson, who, as former coach Pat Riley, set all time records in the industry as 2000 rolled, the Lakers incorporated some movements called "triangle offense", and excitement just kept going. Shaquille O'Neal won the Finals MVP for the third consecutive year, and coach Phil Jackson has his ninth Championship prices head coach.
Throughout its history, the Lakers behind the scenes life has been full of drama and often dissent. The Los Angeles Lakers went through some "glory days" and some nights too dark; key players injured or just dissatisfaction in other places, but sometimes returned, and the coaches were both poor and excellent. This team has a lot of history and it is fascinating. The bottom line is just now the Lakers keep winning!
Get tickets to see the Lakers at home, and join some company. Maybe nearby star in Hollywood Hills has something to do with it, but Lakers fans do not seem to care much where they sit in Staples Center. They are on their feet most of the time anyway, screaming along with thousands of other fans, "GO LAKERS!"
