The Role of Modeling Building Information (BIM) for MEP

Recently, the construction industry has been dealing with issues such as over project budgets, declining productivity and not meeting delivery dates. Architects, MEP engineers and contractors are constantly seeking new ways to improve productivity, reduce costs and simplify the building design and delivery process. BIM is a rich information technology that allows a digital representation of construction projects, simulating the design, planning, construction and operation of a unit deployed hope to minimize these problems to a large extent.

Considered a promising new technology, BIM has been widely adopted MEP projects, as it has pre-construction, design and manufacturing advantages. BIM provides MEP engineers with integrated computable information, highly coordinated and coherent internally on the mechanical system, electrical and plumbing for the planning, management, decision-making and operation of the plant. The space for the CRM systems is generally reserved before the CRM system is defined. Therefore, when designing a complex and a larger building, pushing the MEP system for the building can become a challenge. In these moments, the 3D BIM model helps collision detection - reduce the risk of the construction costs. This enables a holistic design approach which incorporates not only the MEP disciplines, but the process as well - with an integrated digital environment for the design, documentation and analysis.

BIM creates a virtual MEP model consists of heating and cooling system, the pipes and the construction of the engine room, electricity and lighting layout, domestic water lines and layout of the gas piping system and layout of the system of protection against fire, providing a systematic and thorough analysis of the system to build. This analysis would help to increase the efficiency, accuracy and reducing time coordination of the system and the costs involved.

BIM's ability to digitally represent a building before it is actually built also enables companies to create, manage and share design information more efficiently - resulting in increased profitability, reduce errors and potential risks and less inefficiencies in the MEP building project.
