IKEA Recalls Blinds Reviews
IKEA, the Swedish furniture company, announced June 10, 2010, it is voluntarily recalling more than 3 million blinds. The reason, as indicated by the Consumer Product Safety Commission, is the strangulation hazard posed by free cords of blinds suspension. This recall includes roman shades, roller blinds and some types of blinds that do not have pretensioners and were sold in the United States between January 1998 and June 2010. The recall was prompted by the ratio of 1 1/2 year old boy Massachusetts age, almost choked on a roman shade cable. All three of these incidents were caused by roman shades, blinds, however, and the roll-up shades are recalled because they share the same strings and dangerous loops that do not have a tension device.
The safety agency estimated that about 500 children have strangled in the cords of blinds and curtains from the early 1980s, an average of about one child each month. Customers are asked to immediately stop using the products and return them to IKEA site for a full refund. IKEA recommends that you keep cords and accounts of the current loop out of reach of young children. Install safety devices and reduce access to the cables. IKEA has also offered assistance in the necessary security patches, if the customer wants to keep the blinds.
