The loss of ATA and Aloha
Airlines in 2008, with the recession has significantly influenced the Hawaii
tourism industry. 2008 was one of the worst years for the travel industry in
Hawaii. The number of Hawaii flights by carriers that currently serve the state
is growing. New airlines entering the market, adding new Hawaii flights. This
is good news for the traveling public and for the Hawaii travel industry in general.
Allegiant plans to fly to Hawaii from smaller cities in the continent from the United States in late 2010. Alaska has recently expanded their routes to Hawaii. Hawaiian will begin their service to Haneda Airport in Japan from November. Hawaiian plans to launch its non-stop service to Seoul, South Korea in January 2011.

When the number of flights Hawaii grows and when
routes expand, they inevitably lower prices for airline tickets. This, in turn,
simulates demand for travel, and when more people travel to Hawaii, it
increases the amount of tourist spending in the state of the hotel rooms,
rental cars, taxis, restaurants, souvenirs and so on.
Unlike other regions of Mainland tourist destination party on the mainland, like Orlando, Southern California or Las Vegas, where travelers can reach the millions of cars, Hawaii, as it is located in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, is heavily dependent on air transport for tourism dollars. Thus, the state is highly dependent on airlines that offer flights to Hawaii. Currently, airlines that offer flights to Hawaii and the US mainland include: Hawaiian, United, American, Delta, Alaska, US Airways and soon, Allegiant.
Allegiant will be an interesting addition to the current group of airlines offering flights to Hawaii. Allegiant primarily serves small markets in the US and focuses on the flight who live in these markets for key areas of tourist destinations such as Orlando, South Florida, Las Vegas and soon, Hawaii. Examples of some of the smaller markets now served by Allegiant include: Stockton, California; Eugene, Oregon; Bozeman, Montana and Wichita, Kansas. So far, the business model Allegiant has been successful and its expansion to market Hawaii is further validation of this model.
The state also hopes to increase the number of international carriers serving Hawaii. Flights Hawaii from international locations include: Air Canada, Westjet, All Nippon Airways, Japan Airlines, Air China, Korean Air, Philippine Air, Air New Zealand and Qantas. The state of Hawaii has recruited airlines in China to travel to Hawaii. It was expected that Hainan Airlines, the largest private airline company in China, plans to establish a direct route to Hawaii, but failed plans.
