The Syncretic Nature of Lupus Treatment



THE systemic lupus erythematosus is a common chronic autoimmune disease. People with systemic lupus erythematosis suffer from various disorders associated with abnormal activity of the immune system. Patients with severe forms of lupus patients may also suffer from diseases of internal organs (heart, lungs, kidneys, liver), musculoskeletal disorders (arthritis, osteoporosis), skin diseases (lupus rash) and diseases the nervous system. Many symptoms of systemic lupus erythematosus can be done misleading in the diagnosis of disease processes. Lupus can be diagnosed properly only by means of blood tests and laboratory tests. Systemic lupus erythematosus has an unpredictable evolution. Most lupus treatments are focused on extending periods of remission and amelioration of symptoms of the disease. Although there is no effective cure for lupus, most medical treatments can keep the disease under control. However, because of the chronic nature delivered to the disease, patients require continuous treatment of lupus.


The most commonly prescribed drugs for the treatment of lupus include: nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, corticosteroids, antimalarials steroids and cytotoxic drugs. Biological drugs may also be prescribed in lupus treatments to stop the production of antibodies that have some malicious action in the body. In severe forms of the disease (after prolonged medical treatment with immunosuppressive drugs), some lupus treatments can also include powerful antibiotics. Lupus treatment often include analgesics and sedatives light.

Corticosteroids are commonly prescribed in lupus treatments. Antimalarial drugs are designed to reduce skin lesions and inflammation characteristic of lupus. Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs are often prescribed in lupus treatments to reduce muscle pain and inflammation or swelling and joint stiffness.
Cytotoxic drugs are very powerful and they are prescribed only for patients with severe forms of lupus.
