The founder of the Detroit Pistons was Fred Zollner, who was an Indian in the office with business. He called the team Zollner Pistons from Fort Wayne, integrating the team of his hometown and the name of the founder.
This was in 1940 and quickly became part of the National Basketball League (NBL), which consisted mainly of the teams that are sponsored by one of the companies located in the Midwest. In the first year of its appearance by NBL, they reached the championship final, but was defeated by the Oshkosh All-Stars. It was a shocking defeat only because of the reason that the loss was a single point. The following year, also successfully defended the championship. They stayed in the NBL until 1948, then they migrated to the Basketball Association of America (BAA). They consistently qualified for the playoffs, but failed to regain the championship until 1964. The late 70s was even more disastrous because they posted a record of 21 consecutive defeats defeats. The 80s saw the beginning rejuvenated Detroit Pistons, who came back strongly to win his lost pride.
