Detroit Pistons The Story Behind The Name

It is the dream of all fans of real basketball to see the Detroit Pistons in action. They are one of the most popular teams in Detroit basketball. Each fan is really excited about the performance of his team, but only a handful of them know the entire history of the team.

This team had traveled through a dramatic transition phase before reaching this stage. It was not the first name of the team when it was launched in the year 1941. The name at this point of time was Fort Wayne Zollner Pistons. So if you are a fan of this team, then you better have a good idea about the history of the team that is now one of the best teams in the world of basketball.

The name of the team was set to Fort Wayne Zollner Pistons taking into account the city's home team and owner of founder Fred Zollner team. The same name was used in the early years as they played with the National League (NBL). Then they started to play in the Basketball Association of America (BAA) with a shortened form of its original name, which prevents the owner's name as Fort Wayne Pistons. Later, in 1949, the two leagues merged into the existing NBA. This period was considered the golden age of the Pistons.
