A Beginners Guide to Using Facebook for Social Media Marketing



Introduction

Unless you've been living on a desert island for the past decade, you've heard of Facebook. Social Media Marketing, as it became known, is a hot topic.

What is Facebook?

Before discussing how to use Facebook for Social Media Marketing (SMM), it is important to take a moment to understand what Facebook is. Facebook is an application based on the social networking Web accessible via a Web browser. It was not designed for marketing or advertising (unless you want to pay Facebook to make an advertisement for you). It can be a business profile or a personal profile, but is only allowed one profile.

Creating multiple profiles is a violation of the Terms of Use Facebook and can result in all your accounts being closed.

Company profile or personal profile?

Facebook has only two main types of profile. A company profile or personal profile. The personal profile gives you full access to all features of Facebook. The company profile gives you access to manage your pages and advertising campaigns only.

Business accounts are designed for people who just want to use the site to administer Pages and their ad campaigns. For this reason, business accounts do not have the same functionality as personal accounts.

Business accounts have limited access to information on the site. A person with a business account can view all pages and ads on social networks they have created, however, will not be able to view user profiles on the site or any other content on the site that not live on the pages they administer.

Decide whether you want to create a business or personal profile is a big subject in itself. But in summary: If you intend to make Social Media Marketing, I urge you to create a personal profile.

Security

Now that you have created a personal profile.
The first thing you want to do is check your privacy settings by selecting Account> Privacy Settings in the menu at the top right of the Facebook page. Take time to work through these options before starting to use Facebook.

Completing your personal profile

After creating a personal profile, Facebook gives you many tips on how to fill out your personal information. You and your business thinking. Your goal is to have as complete as possible profile so that your own friends will recognize and make friends with you on Facebook.

Add friends

Once your profile is ready, it's time to add some friends with whom you can communicate. Your Company Page

Once your page is created, and you will visit a series of steps to get you started. Topping the list is a button to "suggest friends". This is where creating a personal profile (as opposed to a company profile) really helps. Basically, Facebook will send an invitation to one of your friends you select, asking them to 'Like' your page.
 
Why is an important business page?

The main reason for creating a business page is to separate your professional life from your personal life. Many professional users do not like to mix your personal and professional life. After creating a business page, you can invite your business contacts to 'Like' your business page and contact them there. Also note that you can add other users as administrators to the business page reinforcing the fact that the company is a separate entity page for individual users.
