The Onion that can Help Many Health Problems



Garlic (Allium sativum) has been used for hundreds of years to treat all kinds of diseases and also, of course, delicious food used at home or by gourmet chefs. Roman soldiers received a daily ration of garlic and it says they do not go into battle, in some cases, if they had not eaten his garlic allocation. Garlic is a member of the onion family, which also includes chives and leeks.


There are several brands of garlic extract that are odorless and will not let the powerful smell of garlic on your breath. Another supplement called aged garlic. This garlic contains high amounts of compounds (allicins) that are effective in the fight against the disease.

Medical studies have shown that taking garlic supplements may help prevent colds. A 2001 study involving 146 people found that half of the group received garlic supplements acquired 24 colds during the cold season regular 12 weeks of winter. There is some evidence that garlic can help lower high blood pressure, but it has not been proven conclusively. There is also evidence from some studies that garlic can help lower blood pressure both in people with hypertension. Again the evidence is not entirely conclusive however.A study conducted in 2001 showed that regular consumption of garlic in supplement form, or as a raw or cooked bulb, can help reduce the incidence of stomach and colon cancer. A preparation of garlic oil that can be purchased in health food stores is used to treat ear infections. In literature treatments and herbal uses, it is generally indicated that garlic can be used to help prevent cancer, colds, heart disease and infections.

Garlic is commonly used as a nutritious food, raw or cooked in any form. Garlic is also not recommended for those using immunosuppressive drugs, insulin, or protease inhibitors.
