Lung Cancer Chemotherapy

Lung cancer is mainly treated by surgery, but this is only possible at times which can be operated at diagnosis. This treatment involves the removal of a cancerous tumor, or the entire lung lobe. In such a cancer, there is a possibility of cancer recurrence after surgery. To prevent recurrence, chemotherapy is a highly effective treatment today.

Chemotherapy is the treatment that uses drugs to kill or stop the growth of cancer cells. It also reduces the pain and other problems caused by lung cancer. Chemotherapy drugs are given by injection into a vein by a catheter or thin tube such pill and therefore chemotherapy drugs reach all parts of the body. Chemotherapy depends on the type of cancer, the stage of cancer and the patient's current health status. The sessions of chemotherapy depend on the type of lung cancer and can last several days or perhaps a few weeks with a rest period.

Chemotherapy reduces tumor size or help prevent its spread. Your doctor will perform tests to determine if combination chemotherapy is useful for you or not.

Chemotherapy can produce some unpleasant side effects such as nausea, omitting, weight loss, hair loss, menopause, mouth ulcers, etc., and the side effects are temporary, and most can be cured with the using other drugs during chemotherapy. Chemotherapy also kills healthy cells with damaged cells and side effects occur. The drug's side effects depend on the type, quantity and duration of treatment taken.

Chemotherapy may damage the blood-producing cells of the bone marrow, which affects the number of cells in the blood.
