History of the Mini Cooper

OR Mini exceeded its race car roots to become an icon of a generation. Changes in the Cooper and Cooper S followed suit with hits like the Mini Hatch and other Mini models in the colorful history of the brand.

The history of this exceptional small car would be complete without a mention of cooperation between the two main actors of development and design - the British Motor Corporation (BMC) and the Cooper Car Company.

Original Mini was developed in the 1950s by the BMC, in collaboration with the designer Sir Alex Issigonis.
It was originally designed as an answer to the problem of fuel shortages and the call for more efficient cars suitable for city driving. It was designed as a 4-cylinder car engine with two doors and unibody shell that meant the "bark" or "skin" exterior of the vehicle supported the majority of the vehicle's weight.

The latest version, the Mark II, saw BMC adding a new grille with the design.

The history of the race
John Cooper, Cooper Car Company realized the potential of the Mini as a motorsport vehicle and he persuaded the designer, Sir Alex Issigonis to create the new model: the Mini Cooper. The new model Mini was released as the Mini Cooper in 1961 and the Mini Cooper S in 1963.

Mini Cooper had a 848cc engine, while the Mini Cooper S was a 1071cc engine. The first display of the Mini Cooper S as an icon in the world of the race was in the Monte Carlo Rally. The version of the Mini Cooper was the star during the 1964, 1965 and 1967 rallies. He has also given a central place in the original version of the British film The Italian Job in 1967, when the authors of aggression used Mini Coopers and S-models to take off work at the bank.

The Mini after 1960
The car is a cult in the fifties and sixties, but the brand has suffered a setback in the 70s and 80s, when the brand was acquired by the Spanish and Italian companies. This resulted in the celebrity of the Mini Cooper to the newness of the market.

It was in the 1990s that the brand was transferred from the control of Rover Group to its new owner and current, the German vehicle manufacturer, BMW. The Company incurred the rights of the Mini brand, even after the sale of its interest in the Rover Group. They revived the Mini Cooper in 2000 and the brand was growing and growing since.

The Mini Cooper Today
The Mini is now made changes to the original Mini Hatch and hardtop versions. The brand also launched a special edition classic Mini Cooper and Mini Cooper sports car. Kit cars and concepts such as S and John Cooper Works GP Kit works have also been added to the line-up.
