The Exotic Art Deco Design Movement You Should Know


The term Art Deco refers to an internationally recognized design movement, which is all the rage in the 1920s to the late 1930s. The founders are Eugene Grasset, Hector Guimard, Emile Decour, Paul and Maurice Dufrene Follot. A fusion of early 20th-century styles and groups, Modernism, Cubism, Neoclassicism, Art Nouveau, Futurism and Constructivism to transcend these various decorative arts such as interior and industrial design, architecture, fashion and art.

Unlike other motions, the design was rooted political and philosophical, this was a purely decorative. It was very popular in Europe during the turbulent 20 years and the United States by the 30's caught. Although the actual term was developed from the events of 1925, Bevis Hillier's book titled "Art Deco of the 20s and 30s," the last name popular.

This style, which is as functional and elegant, was famous for its modernity. Its functions include sunburst pattern and materials such as stainless steel, inlaid wood, aluminum and paint. Zebra Skin and shagreen were some of the exotic materials were also used.

Designs can be seen at places like Radio City Music Hall auditorium and the spire of the Chrysler Building. Deco interior is also in the Paramount Theatre in California and the Queen Mary ocean liner in the foreground.

With the start of World War II, the luxurious look of the time the seriousness of the conflict and Art Deco had to take a backseat. South America is home to many of the current building, the Art Deco design to the revolutionary changes were observed in countries such as Brazil and Cuba in the 1930s and '40s. In North America, Miami, Florida is still one of the largest remaining sample architecture of the period, while others in the U.S. under threat from modern development.

Even if a part of history, some organizations have major effort to start from the structures of this period. These consist of buildings, private homes and hotels. Preservation of art, furniture and even kitchen appliances are also in the works.
