The Carolina Panthers is based in Charlotte, North Carolina and is a member of the National Football League (NFL), representing both the North and South Carolina. They are one of four teams playing in the South Division of the National Football Conference (NFC). The Panthers began playing in 1995 NFL expansion teams, with the Jacksonville Jaguars. The uniforms are black panthers, blue and silver. They play at Ericsson Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina.

In the previous year, which won seven games, the greatest number of victories by an expansion team. Panthers owner and founder Jerry Richardson received a new NFL franchise in 1993, the first after 1976 (when the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Seattle Seahawks were a franchise).

The worst season

NFL 2001 season was a disaster for the Carolina Panthers. Two seasons later, under the leadership of the wing John Fox, they were able to reverse their fortunes and finished the regular season with a record of 11-5. They went to the playoffs after winning the title of the South Division of the National Football Conference and continued to participate in Super Bowl XXXVIII against the New England Patriots.

A close call

Dom Capers, former Pittsburgh Steelers assistant coach, was the first coach of the Panthers. In his first season in 1995, they lost their first five games, but recovered well during his last 11 games, winning seven games in all, thanks to Panthers receivers Willie Green and Mark Carrier. Panthers defeated the San Francisco 49ers, who was the champion of the league during this, the first instance ever in NFL history for an expansion team. In 1996, the Panthers have proven their professional status, once again, winning 12 games in the NFL and get the title of the Northwest Division of the NFC. At that time, the Panthers had put in place an impenetrable team including running back Anthony Johnson and Kerry Collins quarter; Pro Bowl linebacker Lamar Lathon, Kevin Greene, Sam Mills, which made the second best defense in the NFC; Placekicker John Kasay who converted 37 field goals in a league record; and top kick returner Michale Bates league who averaged 30.2 yards per return. After beating the Dallas Cowboys during the playoffs, the Panthers lost to the Green Bay Packers, who became Super Bowl Champions of the season.
