In the summer of 2008 the annual E3 games show was held. No new consoles were announced nor were the major new games announced from any of the well-known franchises.

In particular, the presentation Nintendo had nothing to do the excited players. The only item that really caused excitement was the announcement brief but fairly shocking that GTA: Chinatown Wars will be released for the DS.

The announcement really came as a surprise since GTA is best known for its adult content while the Nintendo DS and Nintendo DSi are known for their home games.

Fans of the series feared that GTA: Chinatown Wars DS would have mitigated its content to take better with the type of game commonly found on the island. GTA developers Rockstar said they would not be comfortable and that Nintendo asked them to tone the content down. Tonic content to anything that might make the game suitable for even a rating age 12+ leave very little content in GTA: Chinatown Wars.

The new Grand Theft Auto game is sure to win a lot of sales after the success of the Xbox 360 and PS3 editions series. Whether or not GTA: Chinatown Wars DS marks the beginning of a more open vision of Nintendo on adult games or whether it is an output remains to be seen.
