Understand and Recognize the Symptoms of Leukemia

Understand and Recognize the Symptoms of Leukemia ~ Leukemia is a type of cancer of the bone marrow and blood. The disease is characterized by an overproduction of immature blood cells (stem cells) are able to develop and achieve normal blood cell activities fully.

Each type of mature blood cells have characteristics and specific roles in the body. The white blood cells or leukocytes play an important role in the immune system, helping to overcome infections. White blood cells also assist in the healing of skin wounds and cuts. Red blood cells or erythrocytes containing hemoglobin, which is very important in the transport of oxygen to body cells. Red blood cells are vital to the process of cellular respiration, oxygen transport to the cells and removing carbon dioxide from them. Leukemia refers to the accumulation and agglomeration of stem cells from the bone marrow of patients, thereby reducing the normal production of healthy blood cells. The lack of normal blood cells led to the appearance of symptoms of leukemia. It is important to understand that despite the fact that leukemia causes an overproduction of white blood cells, these cells are immature and can not replace normal blood cells. The most common symptoms of leukemia are anemia (too few red blood cells), bleeding risk (too few platelets in the blood), nosebleeds, bleeding from the mouth, predisposition to bruising , high exposure to infections due to a lack of white blood cells, poor healing.

Other symptoms of leukemia are fatigue, lack of concentration, poor mental performance, fever, loss of appetite and weight loss.

In the case of chronic leukemia, which facilitates the accumulation of cells at different locations in the body patients, the symptoms of leukemia can be migraine, insomnia, decreased vision and hearing loss, loss of balance, fainting and seizure. Sometimes people with leukemia may have an enlarged liver and spleen, causing abdominal swelling or lymph nodes. The body of the glands in the body can also be affected by leukemia.
